Foundation Level introduces Years 3–4 students to robotics and artificial intelligence through 60 hours of hands-on training across three progressive courses.
Young learners master visual programming with Scratch, control physical robots with Codey Rocky, and build autonomous ground vehicles—developing computational thinking and engineering skills that prepare them for advanced technology learning.
This carefully structured program combines software programming and hardware robotics, giving students hands-on experience with real robots, sensors, and autonomous systems. Unlike screen-only coding programs, MeritVy students see their code control actual robots—transforming abstract concepts into tangible achievements.
Students begin with Scratch—the world’s most popular visual programming language for young learners. Drag-and-drop blocks introduce coding fundamentals without syntax complexity.
Understanding fundamental program building: sequencing, loops, and conditional statements
Logical and analytical thinking: systematic problem-solving and debugging
Creativity and imagination: expressing ideas through code and creating unique programsHands-on robotics training begins with Codey Rocky—a programmable robot featuring LED displays, sensors, and voice recognition. Students bridge screen-based coding with physical robotics.
Programming with robots and sensors: understanding how robots perceive environments and respond to data
Controlling LEDs and expressions: programming facial displays, light patterns, and visual communication
Working with voice recognition, emotions, and object recognition: early exposure to AI capabilitiesFoundation culminates with building and programming autonomous vehicles from individual components—motors, sensors, chassis, and wheels. This comprehensive robotics experience develops engineering and programming skills simultaneously.
Assembling robots with motors, sensors, chassis, and wheels: hands-on experience with robotics hardware
Fixed path programming with input/output systems: understanding sensor inputs and motor outputs
Sensor-based programming: line followers, ultrasonic sensors, light/sound detection for autonomous navigationMaximum 10 students per class ensures personalised attention during robotics assembly and programming challenges. Courses operate primarily in-centre at MeritVy Learning Centres with online flexibility when needed.
Learning is assessed through teacher observation of in-class activities—watching students approach challenges, debug code, and collaborate with peers. No formal tests or examinations. Upon successfully completing all three Foundation Level courses (60 hours total), students receive a MeritVy Foundation Level Certificate and medal—official recognition of their achievements that families can celebrate and students can display proudly. Parents track progress through the MeritVy Parent App with uploaded photos, project videos, and instructor observations.

Foundation Level prepares students for Innovator Level (Years 5-6), where they advance to Arduino microcontrollers, complex circuits, and advanced autonomous robots. The certificate and medal document students’ growing expertise in robotics and AI, motivating continued learning through the Code to AI Pathway.
